It’s quite rare for WWE Superstars to break character on-screen and be referred to by real name. It’s also rare for a Superstar to call another Superstar by their real name if they’re using a fake name. So many Superstars spent their entire career in WWE wrestling under their real name. Some of the most popular Superstars to do so are John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton (sort of) and Mickie James.
Most of the time, WWE changes a Superstar’s name before they make their debut so that get full control over the name and they can sell merchandise under that name or use it for branding. Here are the ten real names of your favorite WWE Superstars:
#10 Thomas Pestock (Baron Corbin)
The first Superstar on our list is none other than the man you look forward to seeing the least in WWE, Baron Corbin. He is currently the biggest heel and the most despised man in WWE. The man behind the villainous character is a man called Thomas Pestock. Pestock plays his character so well that some fans even hate him in real life.
Under the ring name Baron Corbin, Pestock competed in NXT where he scored quick victories over his opponents. He made his main roster debut at WrestleMania 32 where he last eliminated Kane in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal to win the match and the trophy. Corbin later went on to win the Money in the Bank contract and contested for the Universal Championship multiple times.
#9 Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah (Kofi Kingston)
Kofi Kingston has had a roller coaster year, to say the least. After taking Ali’s spot in the gauntlet match and the Elimination Chamber match at the PPV of the same name, Kofi unexpectedly got over with the fans and just like that, he defeated Daniel Bryan at the Show of Shows to win the WWE Championship.
Kofi became the first African-American WWE Champion and has defended the titles against various opponents and still stood tall. The man born Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah in Ghana, Africa, has achieved what he worked 11 years for. A few months after winning the title, Kingston went back home to Ghana to showcase and celebrate his WWE Championship victory!
#8 Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr (Charlotte Flair)
From Queen City, Ashley Fliehr is one of the biggest female Superstars in pro wrestling as a whole. Daughter of the Nature Boy Ric Flair, The Queen has held a record 9 Women’s Championships and she was the last person to hold the Divas Championship and the first person to hold the Raw Women’s Championship.
As Charlotte Flair, she is one of the first women to main event WrestleMania and has main evented more pay-per-views than any other woman in WWE. WOOOOO!
#7 Nuufolau Joel Seanoa (Samoa Joe)
The Destroyer Samoa Joe has had a successful wrestling career, winning the Ring of Honor World Championship, TNA World Championship, NXT Championship, and the United States Championship, just to name a few.
Joe plays a very good heel on TV and his mic skills are also good. There is no doubt that one-day Nuufolau Seanoa will one day taste the glory of becoming WWE (Universal) Champion.
#6 Andrew McLean Galloway IV (Drew McIntyre)
Drew McIntyre is one of the biggest heels in WWE right now but as of late his booking has taken a turn and he has been on the losing side for a while, losing most of the matches that he was involved in. After his first run with WWE didn’t go so well, McIntyre was released by the company and went on to compete for various promotions.
Galloway won the Impact World Championship before returning to WWE and winning the NXT Championship. He won the Raw Tag Team Championships along with Dolph Ziggler and only time will tell if WWE will pull the trigger and give him the World title that he was once promised.
#5 Windham Lawrence Rotunda (Bray Wyatt)
The Eater of Worlds Bray Wyatt has finally returned to our TV screen and he brought his not so friendly friend with him, The Fiend, who is a whole lot scarier than the presenter of the Firefly Fun House. Born Winham Rotunda, Wyatt is the son of former WWE wrestler Mike Rotunda and he is the brother of current WWE Superstar Bo Dallas.
Now that WWE has finally found something to do with Bray, they have to plan things carefully and make sure his new character ends up being the success that it should be.
#4 Paul White (Big Show)
“The Big Show” Paul Wight has accomplished so much in his 20 plus year career in pro wrestling. Big Show is a former WWE Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, WCW World Champion, and ECW Champion. He is the first person to hold the WWE, WCW and ECW World Championships.
Wight is also a former United States Champion, Tag Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and Hardcore Champion. He has main evented WrestleMania and has starred in several movies. He is no doubt the most decorated champion in professional wrestling history.
#3 Colby Lopez (Seth Rollins)
Colby Lopez was a boy who grew up in Davenport, Iowa wanting nothing more than to become a WWE Superstar. He wrestled for several promotions including Ring of Honor before signing to WWE under the name Seth Rollins. Rollins became the very first NXT Champion and along with The Shield, they became the most dominant stable in pro wrestling.
After The Shield dispersed, Rollins went on to win the Money in the Bank contract which he cashed in at WrestleMania 31 to win his first WWE Championship. Four years later, he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 to win the Universal Championship. Dreams do come true.
#2 Rebecca Quin (Becky Lynch)
Just like Rollins, Rebecca Quin grew up wanting to be in WWE. She trained in Finn Balor’s wrestling school when she was young and wrestled in the indies before signing with WWE and competing in NXT. Lynch became the hottest Superstar in late 2018 and went on to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship, 2019 women’s Royal Rumble match and she main evented WrestleMania 35 where she pinned Ronda Rousey to win both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships.
#1 Joseph “Joe” Anoa’i (Roman Reigns)
Joe Anoa’i, a former American football player, is currently the face of WWE. Reigns is one of WWE’s biggest stars and many people regard him as a hero. Reigns has had some ups and downs in WWE. He won the 2015 Royal Rumble match, main evented four WrestleManias in a row, won the WWE Championship four times, and he defeated Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam last year to win the Universal Championship.
Wrestling is in Roman’s blood. His cousin The Rock was a WWE wrestler as are The Usos, his father Sika was a wrestler and his brother Rosey was also a WWE wrestler. In late 2018, The Big Dog has to relinquish his Universal title due to leukemia. He returned before WrestleMania 35 and defeated McIntyre at the event. As WWE’s franchise player, another WWE or Universal Championship reign isn’t ruled out.
