This is one reason as to why regular drafts are a positive thing. Not only to keep things fresh, but also because some superstars may excel on one brand, more than others. Quite a lot of the time though, it’s not the latter and many do get lost and have meaningless angles or even none at all.
Not even 3 hours of RAW can be enough for some stars to shine like they should. And it’s not just this but sometimes, a superstar is just built for a brand; they have more to do on it. Triple H dominated RAW for 6 years before making a move, and The Undertaker dominated SmackDown for even longer. Mostly, it goes back to a lack of creative direction and that is what is affecting many of these superstars, who desperately need to switch brands.
#10 Randy Orton to RAW
If Randy Orton hadn’t recently turned heel upon his return from injury, then he probably would have reached the top spot on this list.
As a babyface, Randy had become very dull on SmackDown for quite some time. He had feuded with pretty much every heel possible, so much so that he was thrown into the WWE United States Championship mix and was having friendly rivalries with fellow face superstars, such as Bobby Roode and Jeff Hardy.
Thankfully, his heel turn will now give him at least another 6 months worth of storylines on SmackDown. Once he is finished with Jeff Hardy, I would like to see him spend the remainder of his time on SmackDown feuding with AJ Styles for a series of matches, before making a move back to RAW.
#9 Shelton Benjamin to RAW
As of this writing, Shelton Benjamin remains off WWE TV, spending time healing at home from some nagging injuries. Although some have speculated that Shelton is good to go and WWE just don’t have anything for him creatively at the moment. Regardless of that being true or not, Shelton should be returning to TV sooner, rather than later, but, what is there for him to do?
Shelton is 43 years old, and although he doesn’t look to be retiring any time soon, his time to be a top singles superstar has seemingly gone. Shelton has spent the majority of his WWE return teaming up with Chad Gable. They had a short but decent run until Chad was drafted over to RAW on the post-WrestleMania Superstar Shake-up back in April. Since then, before his time off, Shelton was only sporadically used.
Other than completely jobbing him out, which is something I never hope to see, I think the best option for Shelton today is to head over to RAW and reform his tandem with Chad Gable, since Chad has nothing to do also, and maybe even go one step further and form a faction, maybe with Chad’s other former partner, Jason Jordan.
#8 Becky Lynch to RAW
The SmackDown women’s division should have been built around Becky Lynch, and at the beginning, it seemed like things were heading that way when she became the first WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion in WWE history at Backlash in 2016.
Becky would lose the Championship to Alexa Bliss at the end of the year, and as pointed out by Becky recently on SmackDown, she hasn’t had a Women’s Championship match just about a year and a half now.
While there is a good chance that Becky may walk out of SummerSlam with the Women’s Championship, it might just be too little too late. While Becky has yet to have a series of matches with Women’s Champion Carmella, she has faced and defeated everyone else on the blue brand. So, a transfer over to RAW may be what is for the best, as she may get a better push and will have fresh faces to feud with.
Becky is a fantastic performer and deserves to be on top of either brand as Women’s Champion.
#7 Bobby Lashley to SmackDown
Bobby Lashley returned to WWE after an entire decade-long absence on the post-WrestleMania episode of RAW, but other than a victory over Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules, they haven’t done much else with him, and he is being wasted.
WWE are really missing the gravy train with Lashley. He dominated wrestling outside of WWE and is an accomplished MMA fighter with a very impressive record of 15-2. Bobby should have been poised to take over from Brock Lesnar is his pending departure, but WWE had other plans, which has left Bobby in meaningless short-term feuds.
The best way to turn everything around for the former Impact World Champion is for a transfer over to his original WWE home, SmackDown. Bobby could make an immediate impact on SmackDown, and run through everyone in his way until he is ready to become an unstoppable WWE Champion.
#6 Heath Slater & Rhyno to SmackDown
During Heath Slater’s ‘Free Agent’ angle, he was thrown together in a tag team with former ECW and NWA World Champion Rhyno.
The duo amazingly became the first ever WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions in 2016 and were featured prominently on TV. They would lose the titles to Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton at the end of the year, but would still remain on SmackDown frequently.
They were drafted over to RAW back in 2017, and have done a lot of nothing ever since, other than the occasional job on RAW. As they had the complete opposite kind of success over on SmackDown, I believe they should be sent back over. They could re-enter the decision and have some entertaining matches with The Usos, The Bar and others. The two are being wasted in their current position on RAW.
#5 Bobby Roode to SmackDown
Bobby Roode debuted on the post-SummerSlam edition of SmackDown last year. Despite having been a heel in NXT, Bobby debuted as a face, allegedly because WWE didn’t want to change his ‘Glorious’ theme music. It was also too catchy for fans not to sing along with and would put him over as a face.
A big part of the reason why Bobby had such a great run with NXT was that he played to his strengths of being a great heel. Much like in TNA, Bobby shined as an obnoxious heel in NXT, and fans both loved it and loved to hate him. Despite this, Bobby was still moderately successful as he became the WWE United States Champion and enjoyed some very entertaining matches with the like of Randy Orton, Rusev and even Jinder Mahal.
He switched to RAW during the Superstar Shake-up earlier this year and has done absolutely nothing ever since. Many fans were hoping for a heel turn shortly after his arrival, and are still waiting. He didn’t have the main event run on SmackDown that he should have had, but it almost seems like the main event when compared to his current position on RAW, having go-nowhere short-term feuds with Elias and Mojo Rawley.
Bobby needs to go back to Smackdown as soon as possible, and be given that heel turn he so desperately needs.
#4 Bray Wyatt to SmackDown
Bray Wyatt was once the most talked about new superstar in several years. He had everything to be a star, the skill, the mic work and the gimmick, he really had it all to be one of the biggest in WWE history.
Some lacklustre booking saw him go drastically down over the years, but he was given some hope during his run on SmackDown from 2016-17. Although his feud with Randy Orton received a highly negative response for being overly long and overly booked, it still saw him get a lot of TV time and his first couple of Championships. At first it was the tag team, and then he reached the top, becoming the WWE Champion.
Just two weeks after he lost the WWE Championship, he was drafted to RAW, for yet another lacklustre run. He has had mostly short feuds, other than an incredibly overbooked one with Finn Bálor and a pretty fun one with Matt Hardy, but that has ultimately lead to he and Matt treading water in the tag team division.
Ever since his return to RAW, he has barely touched the main event scene but as he was last seen on SmackDown as the WWE Champion, he could easily fit right back into that picture should me make a move back.
#3 Jinder Mahal to SmackDown
Back in 2017, Jinder Mahal was drafted from RAW to SmackDown, and it was the best thing to ever happen to him.
For the majority of his WWE career, both first run and current, Jinder had been mostly used as a jobber, the type that would already be in the ring when RAW returned from a commercial break, not even get acknowledged by the ring announcer and then squashed by his opponent. That all changed in a manner of weeks as he went from jobber to the stars to WWE Champion. Jinder ruled over SmackDown for almost a year.
Jinder was drafted to RAW on the post-WrestleMania Superstar Shake-up and immediately got off to a horrible start. After topping off his SmackDown run by becoming WWE United States Champion at WrestleMania, he lost the title to Jeff Hardy during his first match back on RAW, hasn’t been anywhere near the main event scene and is spending his days telling everyone to meditate.
WWE Champion on SmackDown, meditating on RAW. He really needs a change.
#2 Asuka to RAW
I mean, how did this go wrong? Honestly, just how?
Asuka was untouchable. She had the “longest undefeated streak in WWE history” at 914 days, she was the NXT Women’s Champion. She hammered opponents, still looked strong in matches where it seemed like she was going to lose, maintained an undefeated streak on RAW and was the inaugural winner of the women’s Royal Rumble match.
She would go onto lose to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania. This decision received mixed reviews but wasn’t the worst thing that could happen. Unfortunately, the worst thing that could happen to her has ever since she was drafted to SmackDown.
Instead of regaining her impressive winning streak, she has lost several matches, including her first match on SmackDown. She hasn’t been allowed to show the same kind of skill and dominance she had on NXT and RAW, and not only do the fans know it, but she does too as she allegedly left a recent Smackdown taping early due to being unhappy with her recent booking and for being left off the SummerSlam card.
It seems like she won’t be believable enough to maintain her former mystique, but if it were at all possible, then the best route to go is a return to RAW, the brand she used to rule with an iron fist.
#1 Finn Bálor to SmackDown
Now this one really is baffling.
Finn Bálor, the inaugural WWE Universal Champion, is the kind of superstar who could be the face of a company. Now whilst true that he had to adapt to the WWE style after years in Japan, he still remains a highly entertaining performer.
Yet, Finn has not been given the big push he deserves.
If ‘being over’ was at all the problem here, which I do not believe, then it is kind of hard to be that over when you are left off several pay-per-views. Balor has had a go nowhere feud with a then recently debuted Elias and an overbooked and weird feud with Bray Wyatt.
The best thing WWE can do with Finn Bálor right now is an immediate move to SmackDown and a heel turn. There, he could possibly form a new alliance with his former Club brothers Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, and rule over SmackDown as a heel stable. Subsequently, Finn could feature prominently in the main event scene, and not just a contender for the WWE Championship, but to become a WWE Champion.
