Reading that sentence, there are probably a few series that come to mind. So, Game Rant has rounded up 10 of the video game series that need a sequel or reboot, giving fans what they’ve been waiting for for so very long.
10 Splinter Cell
It’s been nearly six years since the last Splinter Cell game was released but somehow it seems longer. That could be because Splinter Cell: Blacklist wasn’t released on PS4 or Xbox One and so fans have never truly got to play through a Sam Fisher adventure created for those platforms and not just as a platform compatible re-release. It could also be because Splinter Cell fans keep being teased by Ubisoft executives and the series’ voice actors.
Ubisoft has said that it is planning on releasing some Splinter Cell content at some point. Unfortunately, that content probably won’t be a console adventure it will likely be a mobile or VR game, but fans have been waiting so long that any sight of the nightvision goggle wearing agent will do.
9 Skate
The last game in the Skate series was Skate 3, a game which has stayed popular as EA added made it backward compatible on Xbox One and added it to the EA Access vault. However, far from sating fan demands for a quality skateboarding sim, it has only made fans ask for Skate 4 more.
Fans would like to play Skate 4 that much that they’ve taken to spamming EA’s social media with requests for the game. EA hasn’t said anything about Skate 4 lately, having last denied Skate 4 development rumors back in 2017. It’s not known if things have changed at EA and Skate 4 is a possibility, but fans of the series will be hoping so.
8 Half-Life
If there’s one video game rumor that just won’t go away, it’s that of Half-Life 3. Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released in 2007 but Valve boss Gabe Newell said that he intended for the games to be part of a trilogy, meaning that there’s one more game left to round the series out.
There’s no word on if Half-Life 3 will be released and if fans of the FPS will get what they’re asking for at some point. If Valve has no intentions of making the game, it does seem a little cruel that the company has spent a good part of the last decade teasing Half-Life 3 and trolling fans that keep asking about it.
7 Bully
As schoolboy Jimmy Hopkins, players got to rule the school, bunking off of lessons, stuffing nerds into lockers and getting up to no good in a Rockstar Games sandbox. The game was so much more different to the Max Payne, Red Dead, or Grant Theft Auto series but fans greatly enjoyed it. That’s why it’s so strange that nearly 13 years after the game’s release, Rockstar hasn’t made Bully 2.
Fans may start accusing Rockstar of being allergic to money if it does make Bully 2 soon. The response to Bully 2 rumors and allegedly leaked screenshots from the game shows that after more than a decade, fans really would still like to play a game about a schoolkid who causes mayhem.
6 Bloodborne
From Software action RPG Bloodborne was only released on PS4 in 2015, but fans have spent the last four years wondering when or if Bloodborne 2 is going to happen. While the requests for Bloodborne 2 may be a bit irritating for From Software, which also made Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, it’s a testament to the quality of the game.
Just like all of From Software’s other games, Bloodborne is an incredibly tough game that takes practice or the reflexes of a demi-god to be really good at. Fans would like some more of that, please. From Software hasn’t confirmed anything but it does know that fans would like Bloodborne 2, having had to deny rumors of a Bloodborne 2 Easter egg in its VR game Deracine.

5 BioShock
BioShock Infinite was a controversial but critically acclaimed game that took the action to Columbia, a city in the sky. Fans and critics loved it when it was released in 2013 but less than a year later, those hoping for a sequel were disappointed when developer Irrational Games shut down. Co-founder Ken Levine said that he would like to make games in a different way and so the team was split up, with some employees moved to the rest of the 2K structure.
Irrational Games may have closed but a new BioShock game may be in development. Hangar 13, another 2K studio, has dropped hints that a new game is in the works and one analyst suggested that a new BioShock could be released in 2020.
4 Silent Hill
In 2014, Kojima Productions released P.T., a playable teaser for the horror game Silent Hills. The playable teaser was hugely popular but the full game ended up being cancelled. Kojima also had a falling out with Silent Hill publisher Konami and left the company in 2015. It wasn’t all bad, as Kojima is working with Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus, who were part of P.T.’s development, on the game Death Stranding.
Death Stranding is no Silent Hill game, though, and fans have been wondering what, if anything, is going to happen to the popular horror series. Nothing has been announced yet but Konami has just renewed the Silent Hill trademark, which is a positive.
3 Dead Space
The day that EA announced that it would be closing Visceral Games was a sad day. Fans were sad for the developers at the studio who had lost their jobs, they were sad for the Star Wars game that they probably wouldn’t get to play, and they were sad as it probably meant no more Dead Space games too.
Dead Space wasn’t always great and there were several criticisms about Dead Space 3. However, the survival horror game tried new things and had fun with the genre. One former developer does have an idea for Dead Space 4 and fans did ask for EA to make that game, but as the series was always single-player only, it seems very unlikely that a new Dead Space game will be made.
2 SSX
EA must have a thing against sports with boards because it has let the SSX series go dormant. SSX was released in 2012 and it sold well and critics liked it. Fans also asked the company to add multiplayer, something which, if offered now, could potentially make a good amount of money for the company.
Those who enjoy snowboarding can play Ubisoft’s winter sports game Steep, but it’s just not the same. SSX’s brand of ridiculous, arcade style fun was something special which is why so many are asking for a new SSX game to be released, more than seven years on.
1 The Simpsons: Hit & Run
There are so many bad movie and TV show tie-ins that few probably expected The Simpsons: Hit & Run to be as good as it was when it was released in 2003. The game was very good, though, entertaining players with a plot about alien conspiracies and strange goings on in the town of Springfield. The game was like a cartoon version of Grand Theft Auto 3.
The game was developed by Radical Entertainment, which is now an Activision support team, and published by Vivendi Universal Games, which merged with Activision too. A new console about The Simpsons probably isn’t in development, but as The Simpsons mobile games have been incredibly popular, this does suggest that people would be happy to pay for one.
