It’s been a long time since Black Widow, as a character, debuted in Iron Man 2 in 2010. It seems like she should have gotten her own film years ago but as they say, it’s better late than never. That applies to the release of this film, Black Widow, as it was supposed to debut in 2020.

The global pandemic not only pushed it back, but Marvel had to rearrange its entire lineup of films and shows. Thankfully, there’s nothing in the movie that doesn’t make sense when it comes to the MCU’s new release order. However, that’s not to say there aren’t things that don’t add up. As the movie also leaves some questions unanswered, there will be spoilers ahead for this deep dive into those mysteries.
10 Will Yelena Hunt Clint?
The infamous stinger scene returns in Black Widow just like almost all of the Marvel movies. After the credits, Yelena is hunched over Natasha’s grave, mourning the death of the hero following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Valentina then appears and shows Yelena a picture of the person who killed Natasha: Clint Barton.
This is a lie or, at least, it isn’t the full story. This seems to set up the idea that Yelena will play a big part in Clint’s spinoff show.
9 What Are Alexei, Melina, And The Other Widows Up To?
Yelena seems to be doing fine for herself as she appears in the final scene. However, what happened to Alexei, Melina, and the refuge Black Widows? Since they survived the red room’s crash, their presence seems like a fitting setup for another spinoff show.
They could also be involved in Clint’s Disney+ show in order to avenge Natasha. However, who the actual big bad will be is yet to be revealed.
8 Did Alexei Ever Meet Captain America?
One of Alexei’s best traits in Black Widow is how much he talks about Captain America. When he is challenged on meeting him, Alexei doesn’t take too kindly to these words.

Is Alexei lying or did he somehow meet Captain America in the ’80s? Is there another super soldier out there posing as Cap? He’s probably lying but who knows?
7 Alexei’s Imprisonment
There are a few things that don’t add up about Alexei’s prison sentence. He acts like he still knows a lot about Melina as well as other critical information that Natasha needs. How is he getting this information when he was seemingly cut off from the Red Room?
Maybe it was a ruse but that is unlikely. Also, why did Alexei never escape? He is a super soldier after all. If he never tried to mount a jailbreak, maybe he still was secretly active during this time.
6 How Did Dreykov Survive?
Natasha has done some bad stuff in her life. One of the more deplorable acts is in Black Widow wherein she blows up Antonia as well as Dreykov. While Antonia was horribly scarred, Dreykov walked away unscathed and this is never explained. Did he get plastic surgery? If that’s the case, why didn’t he give it to his daughter?
5 The Black Widow Program
The very concept of the Black Widow program doesn’t make sense. The process of turning little girls into killing machines is explained via mind control. However, what exactly are these girls if not killers? How can a magic red mist cure them instantly? What exactly are their personalities if this is all they have ever known?
Natasha got out and seems okay. This idea could be explored in some spinoff series, perhaps one starring Alexei and Melina.
4 Mason’s Underground Ties
Mason used to be in SHIELD which is not established that well in Black Widow. That explains how he and Natasha know each other. What isn’t explained is how he gets all of his stuff.

Private contractors have contacts. That much is obvious. The question is rather how could Mason get this stuff for Natasha without alerting any authorities looking for her? There is a quick remark to this in the movie but it is quickly brushed aside. Mason should have been caught rather quickly if the other Avengers were smart.
3 How Did Natasha Escape Ross?
After the Red Room crashes, Ross is seen driving onto the scene with a huge caravan of soldiers. Natasha forces Yelena and the others to leave. She says she will deal with Ross, but then it fades to black and Natasha changes her appearance. She then flies away on a jet.
How did she get away from Ross when he was right there? She could have just gone with Yelena if she planned on running in the first place. Alternatively, Natasha could have reached some type of deal with Ross, although what such an agreement involves is left unknown.
2 The Red Room’s Collateral Damage
The Red Room crashing also doesn’t add up. That facility was huge. A giant creation like that should have caused a significant explosion. Yet it kind of just litters the ground with debris like it was a piñata filled with candy.
What were the effects of the crash? Who cleaned it up? It’s not the most important question left dangling in Black Widow, but it is something worth thinking about.
1 Melina Having The Perfect Disguise
It’s kind of obvious when the gang gets captured that a plan was concocted between Melina and Natasha. In fact, it wouldn’t be a Marvel movie if Natasha didn’t put on a disguise.
How Melina had the exact copy of Natasha’s hair is suspicious though. Was she keeping tabs on her hairstyle in the Avengers and updating her hair on a daily basis? It’s a little odd.
