Here are 10 upcoming games we’re excited about that are being developed with Unreal Engine 5.
1. Tomb Raider
During the State of Unreal 2022 event, Crystal Dynamics announced that the newest Tomb Raider will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.
The last game released in the Tomb Raider franchise was Shadow of the Tomb Raider back in 2018. It was the third game since its welcome back as a remake in 2013. The graphics were incredible with dynamic lighting, it had fantastic cinematic cutscenes, and had a vast array of weapons to have fun with, including guns, bow and arrows, and melee weapons.
No release date for the game has been announced.
2. Quantum Error
Quantum Error is an upcoming horror game built for next-gen hardware with Unreal Engine 5. Similar to some of the greatest kinds of horror video games in the past, its setting is in space with dark, metal corridors, blood-spattered walls, and futuristic weapons.
The Quantum Error website provides more information than the teaser trailer above, showing off more weapons, vehicles, settings, and disturbing creatures.
Though there is no official release date; however, the official Quantum Error Twitter account announced that the game will be released “this year for sure.” Quantum Error will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
3. Redfall
Redfall is a cooperative, first-person shooter based in Redfall, Massachusetts. You can play alone or team up with up to three players to slay blood-sucking vampires using futuristic weapons and interesting power-ups such as invisibility, according to hints from the teaser trailer above. The graphics and gameplay mechanics look incredible, and we can’t wait to see more.
Redfall is set to release in Summer 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X/S, including day one on Xbox Game Pass.
4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl
This first-person shooter brings you to Eastern Europe in a post-apocalyptic world. It’s planned to be a large open-world video game, allowing players to explore mysterious areas.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 website also explains that the decisions players make will have an effect on the world itself, known as the Zone. The developers plan on using Unreal Engine 5 to better immerse players in the living world, as well as use advanced AI to make enemies more challenging to defeat.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl will be available December 8, 2022, for Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC on Steam, Windows, and the Epic Games Store.
5. Kingdom Hearts 4
During its 20th Anniversary event, Square Enix announced the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 using Unreal Engine 5. The game looks like it will be based in a large city similar to Tokyo with the usual characters including Sora, Goofy, and Donald Duck. The graphics look beautiful as can be seen in Sora’s hair, face, and the dynamic lighting and shadows surrounding the city.
No release date nor gaming platforms have been announced. However, since Kingdom Hearts 4 will be running on Unreal Engine 5, it is expected to be initially released for next-gen hardware like the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
6. The Witcher
CD Projekt Red announced via a news post on The Witcher website in March that a new Witcher game is in development, unofficially being called The Witcher 4. The Unreal Engine Twitter released a great video with the developer explaining why UE5 is a great fit for the new game.
The new developing platform will help CD Projekt Red create a beautiful, vast open-world for the game, and help it avoid the larger number of issues that can come up when developing such a game. Unreal Engine 5 will drastically improve video games like The Witcher 4, and we cannot wait to see it.
No release date nor platform has been announced yet.
7. Dreamhouse: The Game
Dreamhouse: The Game is set to be an extremely realistic game on designing a home and everything that goes into it. This includes the architecture, interior design, smart home electronics, blueprints, the outdoor setting, and more. The game will be compatible with VR headsets and have photorealistic graphics, annotated dimensions, and a multiplayer aspect.

8. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate
The next entry in the Dragon Quest series was finally announced in a teaser trailer back in May 2021; unfortunately, no gameplay footage has been released to the public yet.
What we know so far, is the new Dragon Quest will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 based on a tweet from the official Dragon Quest Twitter account. Although in Japanese, this was an announcement telling its fans that the new Dragon Quest entry will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 and that it is looking for new development staff to help it on its journey.
No release date nor platforms have been announced.
9. Echoes of the End
Echoes of the End is set to have narrative gameplay with lots of cinematic elements, puzzle-solving, and fighting in a new fantasy world. It comes to us from a small Icelandic publisher, Myrkur Games, and is planned to be the first of three games in the series.
The developers seem passionate about storytelling, exploring the world, and how you interact with your NPC partner, Abram, throughout the game.
Echoes of the End has no release date yet, but is expected to be available on Xbox Series X/S, the Windows Store, as well as PlayStation 5.
10. The Matrix Awakens
The Matrix Awakens is a fantastic example of what Unreal Engine 5 can do to immerse you into a video game.
The demo shown above makes you question what is showing real actors and what has been created digitally. The cinematic cutscenes transition seamlessly into the gameplay, showing off its incredible lighting and realistic textures. If you’re lucky enough to have an Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5, this demo can be downloaded now from the consoles’ stores to try out yourself.
No release date for the full game has been announced, and it will only be available for the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
Get Ready to Experience Unreal Engine 5 on Next-Gen Hardware
Since migrating games from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 is fairly simple, we may see an even longer list of confirmed games that will be running on UE5 in the future.
This means potentially upgrading your GPU or needing a next-gen console to experience the realistic graphics being put out by Unreal Engine 5. Nevertheless, we’re excited to see more and more games being developed on Unreal Engine 5 be announced.
