A total of 19 of those undefeated teams are ranked in the AP Poll. The rest are looking to claw their way in.
Here’s a look at 10 undefeated teams looking to make a statement in Week 3.
Tennessee
There’s optimism in Knoxville, and Justin Worley has played well with 520 passing yards and five TDs the last two weeks. A win at Norman against No. 4 Oklahoma would put the Vols in the Top 25. Consider this: Tennessee hasn’t beaten a ranked opponent on the road since 2006.
Arizona
The Wildcats edged UTSA last Thursday. Arizona ranks fifth in the nation with 620.5 total yards per game. A win against Nevada on Saturday and Cal next week, and Rich Rodriguez likely takes a 4-0 team into Autzen Stadium for a late-night special on Oct. 2.
Cincinnati
The Bearcats are the lone unbeaten team in the American Athletic Conference, and that’s because of a bizarre schedule that opened the season with two bye weeks. We’ll finally get a look at Gunner Kiel on Friday night against Toledo at Paul Brown Stadium.
Central Michigan
Need a little #MACtion? The Chippewas beat Purdue by three touchdowns and host Syracuse at Kelly/Shorts Stadium this Saturday. Keep an eye on running back Thomas Rawls, a Michigan transfer who has 285 rushing yards and averages 5.0 yards per carry.
Kentucky
Quarterback Patrick Towles has the Wildcats off to a 2-0 start in Mark Stoops’ second year, but this is the SEC. Respect is earned, and that opportunity arrives with a trip to The Swamp to face Florida. Kentucky hasn’t beat the Gators since 1986; a 27-game losing streak.
Maryland
The Terps avoided disaster despite committing six turnovers against South Florida in Week 2, and they face a West Virginia team that looks for revenge after a 37-0 debacle last season. C.J. Brown will need to bring his “A-game.”
Minnesota
Are the Gophers poised to make their move in the Big Ten in Jerry Kill’s fourth season? A win at TCU wouldn’t atone for the conference’s high-profile disasters in Week 2, but it would position Minnesota as a contender in the Big Ten West.
N.C. State
The Wolfpack survived against Georgia Southern and Old Dominion. If N.C. State can weather a trip to South Florida on Saturday, then Dave Doeren and Co. should be 4-0 when Florida State comes in to Carter-Finley Stadium on Sept. 27. Remember what happened last time? This guy does.
Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights open Big Ten play with a primetime showdown against Penn State. The schools haven’t met since 1995, a 59-34 blowout in which the Nittany Lions threw a late TD pass and coaches Joe Paterno and Doug Graber had a heated exchange at midfield. Trust us: Both sides remember.
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders allowed 30.5 points per game to Central Arkansas and UTEP the last two weeks. Davis Webb still averages 365 passing yards per game, but a win at home against Arkansas would ease those doubts.
