While these popular characters are worth the hype, there are 391 unique villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and each deserves some recognition. If players get tired of the same handful of sassy business cats and chubby penguin jocks, these ten underrated villagers may just be the next big thing. With some more obscure neighbors, any Animal Crossing island can be 5 stars.
10 Agnes
This sisterly pig perfectly captures the soft goth aesthetic. With a black and white face, long eyelashes, and pale pink clothing, Agnes is a well-designed character with a great sense of fashion.
As an uchi type personality, Agnes is a caring and friendly neighbor who gets along with many villagers. She and her flawless home decor deserve some more love from fans of the game. Though she is more muted than other sisterly animals, Agnes adds her own unique style to any island she visits.
9 Chadder
Lights, camera, action! This aspiring movie star has stars in his eyes and dreams of the red carpet. Smug villager Chadder can often be found practicing his monologues and perfecting his award-winning smile.

Designed to look like a well-dressed piece of cheese, this tuxedoed mouse may be a bit arrogant, but that’s just part of his charm. Chadder remains a kind and funny villager who loves to be involved in island activities. Plus, he has a hot tub in his chic, city-inspired house. Drop by Chadder’s house and share the spotlight with this soon-to-be-famous mouse.
8 Ursala
Another uchi personality type, Ursala is always looking out for her friends. The pink bear is a little shy and insecure at first but really comes out of her shell once you get to know her. Ursula may not be the most vocal about her opinions, but she’s always up for a lively debate.
With pink fur, a pink and blue shirt, and a pink and blue house, Ursula color-coordinates her entire life. Her love of soft, floral decor makes an already great character even better. Ursala may not be the most popular Animal Crossing character, but she’s still a very caring bear.
7 Hopkins
Move over, Sherb. There’s a new blue boy in charge. Hopkins may have a lazy personality type, but he’s always willing to give his island’s Resident Representative a hand and water some flowers!
Hopkins is an adorable rabbit who loves two things above all: eating and sleeping. When he’s not doing either of those, he spends his time being a sweet friend. However, Hopkins maintains an air of mystery about him. Hopkin’s white circle on the back of his head implies he may actually be inflatable like a beach ball. Who wouldn’t want him on their island?
6 Soleil
Overall, players seem to like Apple and truly despise Graham, but there isn’t a general consensus on which hamster villager is the best. Soliel, undoubtedly, should be at the top of the list. Her side-swept white bangs and bright green eyes help her stand out amongst the game’s other rodents.

However, Soleil’s best feature may be her beautiful house. Using primarily imperial furniture and almost exclusively the color red, Soleil’s home shows that she deserves every bit of her snooty personality. Of the snooty, she’s one of the least annoying, and of the villagers, she’s one of the coolest.
5 Antonio
While some players have issues with the jock type villagers, Antonio seems to be the exception to the rule. Other jocks may get repetitive in conversations about their muscles, this anteater seems to make it endearing.
With black and white stripes and a colorful graphic tee, Antonio adds a bit of an e-boy twist to classic athletic wear. His home’s decor is a bit muted in comparison to other fan-favorites, but that’s no reason to count him out. Antonio could become an iconic villager if given the social media treatment like Roald.
4 Cousteau
Like French cuisine and tiny mustaches? To quote Cousteau himself, “Oui oui!” This frog villager is another jock, though you’d never guess it from his worldly fashion. With elements of France and East Asia in his clothing and home, Cousteau presents an interesting mix of Animal Crossing’s best elements.
Obsessed with both food and fitness, Cousteau is a riveting conversation partner and most definitely unique. His diverse set of interests makes him one of the best frogs in the game. The bar for that is low, however, because everyone hates Diva.
3 Tia
Tia is often acknowledged for being one of the most beautifully designed villagers, but she’s more than just a pretty face. Though it is fun that her face is a teapot, Tia should get credit for making the normal personality type stylish.

With her garden tee and ironwood furniture, Tia brings an air of class to everyone’s island. In addition to her impeccable style, the white elephant always is kind to her fellow villagers. Tia deserves far more recognition in the Animal Crossing fandom because, more than any other character, she has the tea.
2 Genji
Many of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers are inspired by Japanese culture. Zucker represents the street food takoyaki while Kabuki resembles the makeup used by actors in traditional kabuki theater. One Japan-inspired character that doesn’t get as much hype is Genji, who is named for The Tale of Genji, widely considered to be the first novel ever written.
Genji may be a jock, but his design is flawless and classy. His zen garden home adds to his character’s background and provides a nice break from the workout equipment other jocks usually decorate with. A beautiful and funny villager, Genji is one of the most underrated of the game.
1 Tex
Roald may be everyone’s favorite penguin, with Sprinkle and Aurora not far behind, but Tex shouldn’t be forgotten. With a Letter Jacket and a smug personality, Tex exudes energy cooler than the Arctic.
Tex’s igloo is decked out with all the garage band essentials. His drum kit, turntables, and two guitars aren’t just for show. While this penguin may talk a big game, who wouldn’t with that kind of musical talent? Of all the penguins, Tex is the one who’s most likely to bring some flair and swagger to your island paradise.
