By documenting his charm and heroism, and also repeating his iconic “To infinity and beyond” line, fans can easily associate this new Lightyear with the tiny hero they know from Andy’s room. The success of Disney-Pixar’sLightyear may mark the first of manyToy Story movies that tell the stories of the other deserving characters in the franchise.
10 Jessie
Jessie’s introduction in Toy Story 2 presents her as a cheerful and carefree soul with a strong love for anything fun. She allows Woody to see past this facade as the narrative progresses, telling him the story of her origins.

Once a cherished childhood toy, Jessie was eventually tossed aside by her owner as she grew up. A film focusing on Jessie’s origins could follow her life before Andy adopted her and may thrive by incorporating a more somber tone.
9 Wheezy
Introduced in Toy Story 2, Wheezy is one of the most forgotten characters present in the Toy Story franchise. Andy’s mom places Woody on a high shelf in his room after his arm tears, resulting in his first encounter with the squeaky penguin himself.
After Wheezy’s voice box broke, the toy was placed out of Andy’s reach to ensure no further damage came to him. A film centered on Wheezy could document his life before the loss of his voice box. The later events of Toy Story 2 reveal that Wheezy has a powerful singing voice, so perhaps a starring role could present him as a musical phenomenon.
8 Slinky Dog
Slinky Dog is one of the best dogs seen in cinema for a variety of reasons. To Woody, he is a loyal and faithful companion, but his design makes him an extremely useful tool. The slinky wire connecting his head to his rear allows for his friends to use his body as a means of traversal.
A film where Slinky Dog takes center stage could allow for numerous stories to be told. Perhaps Slinky was once a normal toy dog, but an accident resulted in the need for a slinky wire to reconnect his body. The toy itself could also be based on a famous canine in the Toy Story world.
7 Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head
The loving potatoes known as the Potato Heads make up one of the most endearing couples in cinema. Mr. Potato Head is a short-tempered spud with one weakness, his loving wife, Mrs. Potato Head.

A feature following their origins could showcase the lives they led before falling in love. Set in Brooklyn, Mr. Potato Head could randomly stumble upon Mrs. Potato Head and instantly form a connection with her. The film could document his attempts to manage his anger in the hope of securing the interest of his potato love interest.
6 Sid Phillips
The antagonist of the original Toy Story was a maniacal one. Though Sid is not entirely evil, his treatment of his toys implies that the path he is on may lead him to a questionable lifestyle.
Sid is the only human character in Toy Story who is aware of what toys are capable of. He knows that toys can come to life when there are no humans around, but he is unlikely to be taken seriously by those he tells. A Sid film could revolve around his discovery and his attempts to convince the world that toys are living beings.
5 Hamm
Though designed to function primarily as a small money box, Hamm is among the most energetic toys dwelling in Andy’s room. He is one of the most outspoken characters in the franchise, regularly exclaiming exactly what he thinks without a filter. This “uncultured swine” deserves a moment in the spotlight to define why he is what he is.
A Hamm story, if based on a real pig, could allow fans to discover his life before becoming a piggy bank. Perhaps Hamm was a famous farmyard animal that escaped the clutches of an evil farmer to avoid becoming his dinner.
4 Rex
The easily spooked tyrannosaurus known as Rex is hilarious. Riddled with anxiety, Rex very rarely opts to engage in dangerous confrontations but will conquer these fears when his friends are threatened.
Rex is a lover of all things video games, but the origins of his fascination with the virtual world are unknown. A film starring Rex could follow his life as a young dinosaur who spends the best part of his days glued to an arcade machine. He could combine his talents with like-minded gamers and eventually pursue gaming competitively.
3 RC
The remote control car known as RC is perhaps the only reason Woody and Buzz made it home to Andy in the original Toy Story. After escaping the terrifying clutches of Sid, Woody and Buzz use RC to chase Andy and his family down on their journey to their new home.

RC’s driving skills are unmatched, but how it developed its driving abilities are unknown. RC’s design could be based on a famous racing car, which would attribute to his skills. A film with RC as the main character could operate similarly to a Cars film, but perhaps its unspoken role could serve to tell a deeper story without the need for words.
2 Stinky Pete
Once a charming and enthusiastic side character, Toy Story 2 sees Stinky Pete revealing his true motivations toward the beginning of the story’s third act. He became bitter having never been allowed to leave his box, but after discovering that he is being sold to a museum he regains a brief semblance of purpose.
He is consumed by thoughts of rage upon learning that Woody plans to return to Andy. The museum will only take a full set, so Woody’s absence would forbid Stinky Pete from being sold. A film based solely on Stinky Pete’s life could tell a much sadder story, while also portraying what life is like for an unsold toy.
1 Woody
Toy Story 2 allowed fans to experience the origins of the rag doll cowboy Woody in the fictional puppet show titled Woody’s Roundup. Though this depiction is only brief and focuses entirely on a toy, perhaps there was a specific cowboy he was based on.
A Woody film could follow the story of a whimsical cowboy and his trusty steed, Bullseye, as they navigate a vast desert while helping the people they come across in each town. It could replicate the style of Lightyear by incorporating iconic lines and appropriate characters.
Lightyear debuted on June 17, 2022, in theaters across the U.S.A.
