RELATED: 5 Things We Loved About Sackboy: A Big Adventure (& 5 Things We Don’t)
While the 2021 lineup for the PlayStation 5 is promising, there are several launch titles well worth investing in. One such title is Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Created by Sumo Digital, this spinoff breaks away from LittleBigPlanet. In doing so this title introduces a litany of new commands and features even veterans of the franchise may be unaware of.
10 Nosedive
Sumo Digital’s PlayStation 5 launch title adds several key features. One of the biggest changes in this PlayStation exclusive is that of Sackboy’s movement options; not only can he run and jump but he can Nosedive as well.
When there are cracks on the ground, players can slam into them to reveal extra points and hidden items within levels. Players can also use this move to crush enemies and objects beneath them. Pressing the triangle button while Sackboy is in the air will activate this ability.
9 Pick Up Enemies
Sackboy’s movement isn’t the only thing that has been enhanced in this felt-covered adventure. Interactive options have also improved. More in-depth levels afford enemies that can be handled in several different ways. One way to deal with the minions of Vex is by tossing them over the edge.
To do so, players will need to stun enemies either by knocking off their armor or rolling into them. Once stunned, pressing R2 near them will make Sackboy lift them. These enemies are helpless while being carried and much easier to dispose of.
8 Flutter
Because levels are more intuitively designed, they can also be more challenging. Large gaps and hidden chasms are just a few of the new environmental hazards players will face in Sackboy’s latest adventure. A great method of dealing with the perils of Craftworld is the Flutter jump.

By holding the X button after jumping, players can extend Sackboy’s air time. This move can be used to avoid damage and get to hard to reach areas. Sackboy users will have to master this skill to take on the game’s toughest challenges.
7 Knitted Knight Trials
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is flushed with content. While the main game does offer several substantial challenges, the true test of skill is the Knitted Knight Trials. Knightly Energy is scattered across the entirety of Craftworld for players to discover.
After finding one of the 15 energy cubes hidden throughout the levels of the game, players can attempt these time trials. Only after completing all 15 of the original trials with a 16th unlock. Be warned, as achieving gold times across all of them will be trying.
6 Customize Emotes
While Zom Zom serves as a clothes merchant, there is more to his shop than just outfitting. After scrolling through the tabs in his shop, an emote tab can be selected. Here players can map up to four emotes to the d-pad buttons.
Each one can have a custom face added to suit the user’s preferences. Customizing emotes is a great way to personalize Sackboy to fit any outfit or style. It can also help to stand out in multiplayer games when trying to get another’s attention.
5 Acting
After a round ends, the Sackpeson with the most points will be declared the winner. They’re declared the winner and given a trophy. A camera will appear and tell the victor to pose for a picture. By tapping L2, Acting mode is activated.

Once Acting is enabled, pressing the directional buttons will change Sackboy’s expression. Thanks to motion detection provided by the DualSense, tilting the controller can change the direction Sackboy looks. This feature can be used most effectively right before a photo is taken.
4 Save Custom Outfits
While choosing a preset outfit in Sackboy: A Big Adventure can be appealing, creating a custom outfit is a great way to make the character feel more unique. Yet another function of Zom Zom’s shop is the ability to save costumes. Custom outfits can be created using any desires pieces unlocked in the inventory.
To do this, simply head to Zom Zom’s shop and individually equip the pieces and skins desired. Afterward, head over to the Complete Costumes tab and select the save option from the Functions section (the icon with the down arrow.)
3 Spin Attack
With such an expansive world to explore, not all the faces that Sackboy encounters are friendly. Some enemies will attack Sackboy en masse, often surrounding him. A great way to counter the hordes of enemies is with the Spin attack.
By pressing the circle button then holding the square button, Sackboy will continuously spin. This move is a great method of crowd control, stunning every enemy that is hit by it. Players aiming to ace each level without deaths will want to get into the habit of using this one.
2 Slap Jump
In Sackboy, some obstacles are just too tall for the felt-covered avatar to climb. In these instances, using the Slapjump is key. Pressing the square and X buttons in rapid succession will allow Sackboy to jump higher than previously possible. The animation of a felt fist rising in the air will let players know if they’ve executed this move correctly.
This move is also a great way to deal with enemies that are higher up when navigating levels. Making use of this technique is a great way to protect Sackboy while traversing Craftworld.
1 Flare
Sackboy: A Big Adventure also has a cooperative mode. Up to four players can head into a level to tackle its challenges together. If the team somehow gets separated, the Flare can assist. By pressing R3, the exiled character can call the Assistance Copter to reunite them.
It is important to note that this is not an option during teamwork levels but can be used in the base game’s regular scenarios. While there is only local cooperative play available currently, Sumo Digital has announced that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to play online by the end of 2020.
